Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said the municipal agencies in Karachi and elsewhere in the province will perform their functions round-the-clock in the sacred month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The Local Government Minister stated this as he visited different Imambargah and routes of the Muharram’s procession in Karachi continuously for four hours on Saturday. Ghani visited Nishtar Park, Mehfil-e-Shahe Khorasan, Tahiri Masjid, Hussainia Imambargah in Kharadar, Bara Imambargah, Imambargah Babul Ilm, Mohsin Imambargah Ancholi, and other Imambargah in the city. He met the management of these Imambargah and asked them about arrangements for Muharram.
Ghani informed the representatives of Imambargah that ample arrangements had been made to ensure functioning streetlights, continuous water supply, sanitation, functional sewerage system, and carpeting of roads for mourners participating in Muharram processions and congregations in the city. He said the provincial government had appointed focal persons for the resolution of such complaints of an urgent nature.
The Local Government Minister also visited the areas in the immediate neighbourhood of Imambargah and the venue of the Muarram’s congregations in the city to inspect arrangements for streetlights, water supply and sewerage systems, and the condition of the roads.
He said the Sind government would do its best to provide all due civic and municipal facilities to the mourners in the sacred month of Muharram. He said the work had been launched to ensure carpeting of the roads in dilapidated condition as this task would soon be accomplished. Ghani said the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation had been asked to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Imambargah and other venues of the Muharram’s congregations. He said the Sindh government would also ensure the best sanitation arrangements for such venues in the city. He said the focal persons appointed to resolve such complaints would remain in touch with the concerned stakeholders. The Local Government Minister said that the management of all Imambargah had so far been fully satisfied with the Sindh government’s arrangements in this regard. He said the remaining civic issues in such areas would be resolved overnight.
The Local Government Minister said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, towns, and other municipal agencies in the city would provide their services in this regard round-the-clock. PPP Sindh General-Secretary, Waqar Mehdi, PPP District East office-bearers, KMC Municipal Commissioners, CEO of KWSC, officials of Sindh Solid Waste Management Boards, deputy commissioners, and senior police officials accompanied the Local Government Minister on the occasion.
