KARACHI, Sindh – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Tessori on Tuesday strongly condemned the murder of journalist Mohammed Bachal in Ghotki district’s Rounti area.

Bachal, a reporter for Awaaz TV, was fatally shot by unknown assailants. The incident highlights the persistent threat from organized criminal gangs in Sindh’s riverine areas.

Decades-Long Menace

Organized criminal gangs have plagued southern Sindh and central Punjab’s riverine border areas for decades, engaging in kidnap-for-ransom assaults and other illicit activities.

A military operation in the 1990s targeted these gangs, but successive governments’ failure to maintain law and order allowed them to resurface.

Calls for Action

CM Murad Ali Shah and Governor Tessori urged authorities to investigate Bachal’s killing and bring perpetrators to justice.

The Sindh government must take concrete steps to eradicate organized crime and ensure journalists’ safety.

Journalist Community Demands Protection

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and other media organizations condemned Bachal’s murder, demanding increased security for journalists.

Case Registered

Ghotki police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

The incident sparks concerns about the escalating violence against journalists in Pakistan.
