The journalists from Lahore praised the Sindh government’s projects in the province as state-of-the-art. After visiting various areas of Sindh, a delegation of senior journalists from Lahore met with Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at his office in Karachi.
During the meeting, senior journalists from Lahore praised the ongoing projects of the Sindh government in underdeveloped areas like Thar. They expressed their astonishment at seeing clean drinking water available9 in Thar and Nangar Parkar. The delegation noted that due to negative reporting in newspapers, the perception of Thar had been completely distorted.
During the meeting, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon briefed the delegation of journalists from Lahore on the Sindh government’s efforts in the energy, health, and other sectors.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Thar Coal project was the vision of Shaheed Bibi, which was realized by President Asif Ali Zardari. Shaheed Bibi initiated the Thar Coal project, but work on it was halted after the People’s Party government left office. In 2008, President Asif Ali Zardari resumed work on the Thar Coal project after the People’s Party returned to power.
He said that today, the world recognizes Thar coal as the only solution for affordable electricity in Pakistan. The Sindh government is supplying 100 MW of electricity from the Nooriabad Wind Power Generation Plant, and over 3,000 MW is being supplied to Port Qasim from Thar coal. Affordable electricity can only be generated from Thar coal, and there is a consensus across Pakistan that electricity should be produced from this resource.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Sindh government has invested billions of rupees in airports, roads, and other infrastructure projects to support Thar coal. Thar’s coal reserves can not only meet the country’s energy needs but could also allow us to export electricity for the next 200 years. The Sindh government is taking measures that will benefit the entire country.
He said that a leader’s vision should be optimistic, and such a vision is embodied by the leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party. People should receive long-term relief; we want electricity to be affordable so that they benefit. Different nations utilize their resources for collective interests, and the Sindh government also aims to use its resources for national development.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that no one in the country’s history has made the sacrifices or contributions that the Bhutto family has for Pakistan. Shaheed Bhutto, Shaheed Shahnawaz Bhutto, Mir Murtaza Bhutto, and Shaheed Bibi were martyred, yet the PPP never spoke against the country. The Mother of Democracy, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, and President Asif Ali Zardari endured years of imprisonment but never spoke against Pakistan. It was a significant gesture by President Asif Ali Zardari to raise the slogan ‘Pakistan Khappay’ at that critical moment, during the grief of Shaheed Bibi’s martyrdom in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Bhutto family has sacrificed everything for this country; for the People’s Party, nothing is more important than Pakistan. What the PPP has done for this country, no one else has. It has given the nation gifts like the Constitution, nuclear power, and missile technology. President Asif Ali Zardari provided the country with significant achievements such as the 18th Amendment, the renaming of KPK, Aghaz e Huqooq Balochistan, and the NFC Award.
He said that if anyone can unite all political parties and leadership in this country, it is President Asif Ali Zardari. He is the only true statesman in Pakistan, and his role on every platform has consistently been that of a statesman.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari advocates for unity among all. The leadership of the People’s Party teaches that ideological differences among workers should not lead to personal enmity. During the election, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari promoted the slogan ‘Hum Sab Ka Pakistan.’ Just as Shaheed Bhutto won in Punjab, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision serves as a beacon for the new generation in Punjab. He wants the youth of Punjab to play an active role in the country’s development.
He said that although floods affected all of Pakistan, under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s vision, the People’s Party is constructing two million houses. Both local and international firms are involved to ensure the transparency of the housing project. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s role as Foreign Minister is also noteworthy and cannot be overlooked.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that it was Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who denounced Modi as the butcher of Gujarat and Kashmir at the United Nations forum. Despite the Indian ruling party placing a bounty on his head, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India, demonstrating the courage and resolve characteristic of the Bhutto legacy.
He said that the Pakistan People’s Party has never compromised on freedom of expression and freedom of the press. There is no other example of media-friendly leadership like that of the PPP. The establishment of the Journalist Commission to protect journalists’ rights is an achievement of the Sindh government under the People’s Party.
During the meeting, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon presented Sindhi shawls and caps as gifts to the journalists from Lahore.
