Even after 7
years of passing the Access to Information Act in Sindh, no officer could be
nominated in the Sindh Police to implement the Access to Information Act and
deal with the requests.
The Access to
Information Act in Sindh was passed in 2017 under section 7 (1) of which every
provincial government body is required to nominate at least grade 16 officer as
information officer within 45 days.
The said officer
shall respond to applications under this Act.
However, despite
the passage of 7 years after the passing of the law, the Sindh Police has not
nominated an officer due to which the citizens seeking information about the
police are facing difficulties.
In this regard,
inquiries were made to the Inspector General (IG) Sindh and the spokesperson of
the Sindh Police, but no response was received from them.
Like Sindh
Police, information officers could not be appointed in several other provincial
agencies, due to which the Access to Information Act is inactive.
