Karachi. The Sindh Health Department has strongly refutes media reports claiming the death of children in Dadu District.
No child has passed away from measles in Dadu since January 2024. During 2024, there has been 1 measles death in Dadu which was at the beginning of the year in January. This information has been confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO) surveillance team and the District Health Officer (DHO) Dadu.
The Health Department further wants to state that the media reports of 4 children dying in Kashmore from measles are also false, there is one suspected death in the district not 4, such new frenzies are counter productive and cause panic.
The Health Department is taking measures to respond to the measles situation in Sindh, false media reports are demotivating for our staff and result in a waste of resources. We recognise the positive role played by the media in health but plead with them to verify all information from the District Health Officers (DHOs) or other official sources before reporting as there have been a number of false reports during the last week.
In response to the 1 suspected death because of measles in Kashmore, the health department has already conducted a case response activity in which 137 children were vaccinated with the measles vaccine in the district, and such activities are being conducted in Dadu and other areas of Sindh as well.
Furthermore, it is imperative to rely on accurate and verified information from credible sources to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure public trust in health-related matters.
