Thatta A pivotal meeting of the Awami Tehreek Thatta district was held at Lashari House Makli under the chairmanship of District President Razaq Chandio. The meeting was attended by Awami Tehreek’s Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, Central Senior Vice President Noor Ahmed Katiar, and Central Leader Abdul Qadir Ranto as special guests.
It was decided in the meeting that a march from Makli to Thatta city would be organized on February 9 against corporate farming and the construction of six new canals. Additionally, preparations were made for district-level participation in the "countrywide Hari Conference" scheduled to be held in Bhit Shah on February 16.
Addressing the meeting, Awami Tehreek’s Central President Advocate Vasand Thari said that corporate farming is a scheme to sell the country, while the six new canals amount to the genocide of Sindhis. He asserted that the protest movement would continue with full intensity until these corporate farming projects were rejected.
Rejecting the agricultural tax bill, he stated that it was an attack on agriculture, and instead of promoting the agricultural sector, the government was destroying it. He accused the federal government of turning the country into a slave of the IMF. He further alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was complicit with the federal government in all anti-Sindh projects, including the agricultural income tax bill, corporate farming, and the PECA Ordinance Amendment Act. He claimed that even the approval of the six new canals was granted by President Zardari. According to him, the PPP has turned Sindh into a commodity for sale to secure power through backdoor deals.
Awami Tehreek’s Central Senior Vice President Noor Ahmed Katiar stated that the Bilawal-Shahbaz coalition government had imposed the worst dictatorship in the country. Like past dictators, the authoritarian Shahbaz government was also selling the Indus River. He compared the situation to when General Ayub sold three Sindh’s rivers (Ravi, Beas and Sutlaj) to India, calling it an act of injustice against Sindh. He accused the current government of following the same dictatorial policy by amending the IRSA Act to sell the Indus River’s water to foreign companies.
Awami Tehreek’s Central Leader Abdul Qadir Ranto said that PPP had sold every inch of Sindh, including Keenjhar, Gorakh, Karoonjhar, and Kachho. He vowed that the people of Sindh would protect their historical, touristic, and cultural sites at all costs. He demanded the coalition government immediately withdraw its decision on the six new canals, warning that the people of Sindh would not tolerate any canals or dams on their river.
The meeting was attended by Shah Muhammad Chang, Mitha Khan Lashari, Darya Khan Zaur, Ghanur Zaur, Bilawal Lashari, Mujahid Baloch, Anwar Palari, Anil Palijo, Ghulam Ali Zaur, Amanullah Brohi, Ahmed Khushk, and other leaders.
