PTV in Crisis: Employees Deprived of Salaries and Pensions, New Appointments Raise Eyebrows

Islamabad — Pakistan Television (PTV) employees are once again facing a severe financial crisis. August 24 has passed, yet many retired employees have not received their pensions, while current staff members are still waiting for their salaries.
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting expressed strong concern over the issue and demanded a clear explanation from PTV’s management in the next session. Committee member Sehar Kamran stated, “New appointments are being made, but existing employees are working without pay. Are we waiting for PTV to collapse like PIA?”
PTV World continues to hire new staff, raising questions about how salaries will be paid when existing employees remain unpaid. Officials from the Ministry of Information informed the committee that salaries and pensions had been paid up to June 30, but the discontinuation of the Rs. 35 license fee has triggered a financial shortfall.
Committee member Mehtab Akbar Rashdi added, “In old age, pensions are the only form of social security, yet they haven’t been paid for months.”
PTV’s financial system is under review, but both employees and the public remain anxious amid growing uncertainty. Will the state-run broadcaster be able to restore its credibility, or will the crisis deepen further?
