QUETTA, A seven-day anti-polio campaign has been launched across all 32 districts of Balochistan, with Secretary Health Balochistan Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panezai and Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Coordinator Inam-ul-Haq inaugurating the drive by administering polio drops to children at the EOC Balochistan.
During the campaign, around 2.3 million children under the age of five will be administered polio vaccine drops across the province.
Secretary Health Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panezai said no polio case has been reported in Balochistan for the past 24 months. However, he said the presence of poliovirus in environmental samples from Zhob and Chaman, along with the risk of virus transmission from Afghanistan, remains a challenge.
He appealed to parents to ensure that every child under the age of five receives polio drops during the campaign to help maintain Balochistan’s progress towards a polio-free province.
