In response to the alarming increase in air pollution levels, Punjab's Caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has issued a stern call for citizens to prioritize their health.
The government has mandated the use of face masks for all residents in the smog-affected districts of the province.
This drastic measure aims to counter the deteriorating air quality and
safeguard public health.
Citizens Ordered to Wear Masks During Outdoor Activities
The healthcare department of Punjab has issued a notification urging citizens to wear face masks during all outdoor activities.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the affected areas, including Lahore and Gujranwala divisions, has reached hazardous levels.
The order is in effect for a week,
from November 20 to November 26, 2023, emphasizing the critical need for
immediate action to prevent and control airborne diseases.
Artificial Rain Plans and Court Directives
In a proactive move, the government is planning to carry out artificial rain in Lahore later this month.
Provincial Environment Minister Bilal Afzal emphasized the formation of a dedicated team and working group to implement this innovative solution.
Simultaneously, the Lahore High Court has
issued directives to close all schools and colleges on Saturdays in
smog-affected districts, implementing a work-from-home policy for two days a
week.
