Karachi Advisor to CM Sindh on Livestock Fisheries and Human Settlement Syed Najmi Alam chaired a joint meeting of Karachi Fisheries Harbor Authority and Fishermen Cooperative Society in his office on Wednesday.
In meeting MD Karachi Fish Harbor Authority Ali Gul Sanjrani and Administrator of Fishermen Cooperative Society Zahid Ali Bhatti along with their support staff gave a briefing to the Provincial Advisor.
In his address, Syed Najmi Alam made it clear to both dept.’s that our first priority is our poor fishermen, we need to solve the problems of this section immediately. He added that, we have to release 166 fishermen imprisoned in India, for which we will contact the Secretary of Sindh Home Department and will request the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help the Sindh government in this regard.
While the other important issue is that we have to remove the ban on European Union fish exports so that we can take steps to remove this ban within the next 6 months, so that the national economy can be supported and the local fishermen can also benefit from it.
Najmi Alam said that we should also take steps to protect local fishermen from starvation during the ban on fishing, for this we will ask not only the Sindh government but also the federal government to help our fishermen community.
He said that the Fisherman Cooperative Society should register all its fishermen with the Sindh Government.
He added that during the next 6 months we have to fulfill all our goals so that the condition of all the stakeholders associated with the fish industry including the national economy and the local fishermen can improve.
