Karachi Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development, Shahid Abdul Salam Thahim, inaugurated the newly renovated Pak Colony Dispensary under the Sindh Employees' Social Security Institution (SESSI). The event was attended by SESSI Commissioner Miandad Rahoojo , Vice Commissioner Sikandar Baloch, Medical Advisor Dr. Kamran Awan, along with doctors and other officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Thahim stated that providing quality healthcare facilities to workers is the Sindh government’s top priority. He said that SESSI’s hospitals and dispensaries are being modernized to ensure better medical services. “We have already upgraded a dispensary in Sukkur into a full-fledged hospital, and in line with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision, we are committed to further enhancing healthcare facilities for labourers,” he said.
The renovation of Pak Colony Dispensary was completed within a month, the minister revealed, adding that SESSI will soon begin upgrading Valika Hospital. He also announced the establishment of a 300-bed cancer hospital to provide advanced medical treatment to labourers and their families. Karachi currently has 51 dispensaries, two major hospitals, and a kidney center, and wherever necessary, renovation work will be undertaken.
He further stated that the Kotri Hospital has been expanded to 180 beds, with 50 additional beds recently added. The government is also working on a multidisciplinary clinic, where special treatment for diabetes and other chronic diseases will be available.
Highlighting the Benazir Mazdoor Card, Minister Thahim described it as a flagship initiative of the Sindh government, linked with NADRA, ensuring social security for workers. He said that six lakh more Mazdoor Cards will be issued soon to facilitate a larger number of labourers.
SESSI Commissioner Miandad Rahoojo also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude to the Labour Minister for his efforts. He stated that SESSI is moving towards modernization under Minister Thahim’s leadership. “Approval has been granted for upgrading Valika Hospital into a state-of-the-art facility,” he said, adding that Sindh is ahead of other provinces in providing healthcare services for workers.
He emphasized that all medical treatments will now be provided within SESSI hospitals, reducing the need for referrals to private healthcare facilities. “We aim to provide better medical care than private hospitals to ensure the well-being of our workforce,” he added.
