The Sindh Assembly has passed a condemnation resolution against the armed attack on the residence of Provincial Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar in Moro, where his house was set on fire. Several bills were also approved during the session.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani informed that over 2,200 illegal constructions have been demolished across Sindh in the past year.
The session, presided over by Panel of Chairmen Ghulam Qadir Chandio, featured a question-hour, during which Saeed Ghani stated that strict action is being taken against illegal constructions. 46 officers were issued show cause notices, 28 were suspended, and 52 officers were fined after inquiry.
Speaking on the matter, Saeed Ghani acknowledged the limitations within the current legal framework and expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of enforcement measures. He emphasized that amendments to laws and regulations would be proposed to make enforcement more effective.
A resolution condemning the attack on Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar's residence was tabled and unanimously approved, with all members—including the opposition—standing in support.
Additionally, PPP MPA Sadia Javed presented a condemnation resolution against the Khuzdar attack, which was approved unanimously. MPA Farooq Awan proposed a resolution to rename Islamabad Airport as Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Airport, which was also passed unanimously.
The Assembly further approved a bill for the establishment of a Center for Excellence to combat extremism, along with an amendment bill for Aror University of Art, Sukkur. Two members, Taha Ahmed and Adil Askari, were added to the Board of Governors of Nazeer Hussain University.
The Sindh Assembly session was adjourned until Friday at 3 PM.
