Women’s Empowerment Crucial for National Progress, Says Sindh Labour Minister

Fifth Women Empowerment Awards Held Under Employers’ Federation of Pakistan

Sindh Govt Committed to Women Empowerment and Gender Equality: Shahid Thaheem

KARACHI The Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) hosted the fifth Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Awards ceremony at a local hotel in Karachi to recognise efforts promoting gender equality in workplaces.

The event was attended by representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO), industrialists, corporate leaders, civil society members, and government officials.

Sindh Minister for Labour Shahid Thaheem, speaking as the chief guest, said that no development agenda can be complete without the active participation of women. “Promoting gender equality in offices is a welcome step and a key driver of economic growth,” he stated, adding that empowering women remains one of the top priorities of the Sindh government.

ILO Country Head Geir Tonstol lauded the progress being made in Pakistan toward gender equality, stressing that inclusive development is only possible with the full participation of women, who make up half of the population.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards to organisations that have demonstrated commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. Participants termed the event encouraging and meaningful, emphasizing the need for both public and private sectors to create more enabling environments for women in the workforce.
