14th August Celebration at Sindh Madressatul Islam University held

Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Alma-Mater of Founder of Pakistan- Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, celebrated 78th Foundation Day of Pakistan and Ma’arka-e-Haq on 14th August with national hood and spirit of patriotism.   

Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor of SMIU performed Flag hoisting and cake cutting ceremony at the Main Building of the university. Thereafter, in his speech he presented glowing homage to the Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who was also an alumnus of SMI and other heroes of Pakistan Movement. 

He said that we are standing in the institution today, from where Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had received his education some 133 years ago. “Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah created Pakistan and Sindh Madressatul Islam has served the nation since 1885 till date,” he said and added that this great journey of the SMI reminds us that how institutions are playing major role in the development and formation of a nation. Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai further said that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was the leader of principles, honesty and dedication, that is why he is considered among a few leaders of the world who have ideal identity. He said that only the message of the Independence Day is that we all must understand and realise our role and responsibilities, and then work with honesty and dedication. 

Paying glorious tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces on their victory in the war with India in May 2025, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said that today is a pride movement for all of us that we are celebrating Independence Day of Pakistan and victory of Pakistan’s Armed Forces together. He said that some two months ago our Armed Forces: Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air force exhibited their beauty of war expertise, war dynamics and national spirit by defeating Indian aggregation under the leadership of Field Martial Syed Asim Munir.  He said India has always involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan and has tried to create law and order situation over here for its nefarious motives. Besides that, it has occupied Kashmir since 1947. It doesn’t value the resolutions passed by the UNO about occupied Kashmir. On the contrary, it has imposed barbarism on innocent Kashmiri people. Today, Vice Chancellor said, on the occasion of the Independence Day of Pakistan, we urge the world community that they should come forward and play their role in resolving Kashmir issue by getting right to self-determination to Kashmiri people. 

He said the above mentioned war will be remembered in present and coming generations of Pakistan and also in the world history that how Pakistan had fought it and had defeated India. 

In his address Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai also highlighted achievements of SMIU and said that the “Sindh Madressatul Islam University Development Fund” with the amount of 200 million rupees has been created for development of the university and its employees. He also proudly said that when he had joined SMIU as the Vice Chancellor in 2020, student’s population was only 1800, now it has been increased up to 5500 students. He further said that no university having less students’ population is considered for any ranking. Besides that, there was no research culture at SMIU some five years ago, but he gave preference to it. As a result, the SMIU has produced first PhD in the current year and more ten PhD students are in their final phase. Talking on the budget of the university the Vice Chancellor said SMIU had remained in deficit up to 2023, now since the last two years, it has been come out from it. 


He congratulates the Nation on the Independence Day and the team of Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling (DSA) of SMIU on organising successful Independence Day Celebrations and Ma’arka-e-Haq. Dr. Subhash, Chairperson of Department of Social and Development Studies and Dr. Hina Shehnaz, Chairperson of Department of Environmental Sciences also delivered speeches and said that on the occasion of the Independence Day we must pledge for increasing literacy rate and eradication of poverty. On this occasion lecturer Syeda Nazia Ashraf sung the national songs and Ms. Zonaira Jalali conducted the proceedings. Later on, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai distributed certificates and shields among the winner students of the Independence Day and Ma’arka-e-Haq Sports Gala.
