Sindh govt giving full attention to revamping Lyari’s sewerage system: Saeed Ghani

Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said that the sewage disposal system for the entire neighbourhood of Lyari is dependent upon a pumping station. Moreover, the duration of power load-shedding in Lyari is longer than the rest of the city.
Responding to a call-attention notice in the Sindh Assembly’s session on Monday, the Local Government Minister said the provincial government had released funds to provide a generator for uninterrupted functioning of the pumping station for the sewage disposal work in Lyari.
He told the house that almost all main roads and streets of the Lyari area had been reconstructed as the PPP Chairman gave full focus to the development of this area. Later, the gas utility dug up almost all the streets of the area to replace the old gas supply pipelines. He informed the concerned lawmakers that the gas utility had paid the road-cutting charges, which would be spent on the reconstruction of the streets. He said the provincial government had revamped to a large extent the sewerage system in the Lyari area. He said the Jameela Pumping Station had been upgraded with a special grant of Rs 200 million. Eight generators and 20 pumps have been purchased for the pumping station while eight pumps are available as standby arrangement. Ghani said that it was wrong to assume that the sewerage system in the entire Lyari area had been badly affected. The Local Government Minister said the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation took immediate corrective measures to restore the sewerage system in the affected union committees. Meanwhile, responding to another call-attention notice, the Local Government Minister said that action was being taken against the chemical factories, which were involved in the discharge of their effluents into the sewerage lines of the area. He conceded that chemical factories had been involved in such unlawful acts in the entire city.
