Hyderabad: A meeting of the Central Committee of Sindhi Hari Tehreek was held at D-10 Palijo House, Qasimabad, Hyderabad under the chairmanship of the central president, Ghulam Mustafa Chandio. The meeting reviewed in detail the destruction of agriculture in the country, particularly in Sindh, the economic hardships faced by farmers and small landowners, and the policies of the government.
It was decided in the meeting that on October 8, on the occasion of the founding day of the Sindhi Hari Tehreek, a massive protest rally of farmers will be held in Hyderabad, which will march to the Hyderabad Press Club where a sit-in will be staged.
This protest will be against the imbalanced prices of agricultural produce, shortage of fertilizers and agricultural pesticides, skyrocketing inflation, artificial water scarcity, corporate farming, new dams and canals, and the feudal-tribal system.
While addressing the meeting, Ghulam Mustafa Chandio said that due to the anti-farmer and anti-poor policies of the rulers, the country's agriculture has reached the brink of complete destruction. He said that the agricultural sector, which serves as the backbone of the national economy, is being deliberately destroyed, causing serious damage to both farmers and small landowners, as well as the overall economy of the country.
He added that the government has failed to fix the official support price of wheat, leaving farmers and landowners at the mercy of traders and contractors.
As a result, traders purchased wheat from farmers at Rs. 2,000 to 2,200 per 40 kg and are now selling it at Rs. 4,000 per 40 kg. Consequently, the price of flour has risen from Rs. 130 to Rs. 150 per kilogram, while the price of sugar has reached Rs. 200 per kilogram.
Ghulam Mustafa Chandio further said that the rulers had already created an artificial water shortage, causing severe damage to mango, banana, chili, and cotton crops, inflicting a huge financial blow on farmers.
He said the federal government is introducing new laws to seize the resources of smaller provinces, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) acting as its facilitator.
However, the farmers of Sindh, Seraiki region, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab have now awakened and will not allow the construction of new canals or dams, nor will they allow land grabbing under the guise of corporate farming.
The meeting expressed deep sorrow over the devastating floods in Punjab and the Seraiki region and demanded the government to immediately rehabilitate the affected poor people.
The meeting was attended by Darya Khan Zaoor, Dr. Dildar Laghari, Comrade Shagan Kolhi, Advocate Parvez Dawood Poto, Bilawal Lashari, Sagar Dars, Mazhar Mirjat, Anwar Rind, Advocate Ismail Khaskheli, Mir Manak Talpur, Ali Nawaz Almani, and others.
