Islamabad: PMD Issues Monsoon 2026 Outlook; Predicts Below-Normal Rainfall and Higher Temperatures

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its monsoon outlook for 2026, predicting below-normal rainfall across most parts of the country from July to September. Conversely, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive above-normal precipitation.

According to the briefing, nationwide temperatures—particularly in northern Punjab and western Gilgit-Baltistan—will remain above average, increasing the risk of heat stress. While below-normal rainfall poses water scarcity risks for Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, isolated heavy spells still carry significant threats of urban flooding in Sindh, Punjab, and KP, alongside potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in northern areas.
