Hyderabad: The Awami Tehreek held a major public conference at Palijo House, Qasimabad, rejecting what it described as conspiracies to divide Sindh, seize its lands and mineral resources, and construct new canals and dams including the Jalalpur Canal.
Speakers declared that whether through the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment or any other move, Sindh’s people would not accept division of their historic homeland. Awami Tehreek President Advocate Vasand Thari said Sindh, with a civilisation over 7,000 years old, had voluntarily joined Pakistan on promises of autonomy, and its people would struggle “until their last breath” to protect their unity.
He alleged that corporate projects under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) were “occupation schemes” to take over Sindh’s coastal belt and resources. He warned that Sindh would resist corporate farming, Green Pakistan, and Green Tourism initiatives.
Other leaders, including Sindhiani Tehreek’s Umra Samoon, Sindh Mazdoor Tehreek’s Khaliq Gandro, and senior intellectual Jami Chandio, vowed peaceful resistance, calling on PPP to quit the federal coalition if it opposed division. Farmers, workers, students, and women pledged to extend the awareness campaign across Sindh.
