HYDERABAD/BADIN, Aug 20: The Awami Tehreek on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged arrests and disappearance of its workers in Daei city, Badin, following a rally and public awareness campaign against the proposed division of Sindh.
According to the party, Badin Police conducted raids in Daei city to arrest Awami Tehreek District Badin President Mehran Dars, Murtaza Sham and other workers. The party alleged that its Badin leader Lakhadino Khaskheli was arrested from his cabin and subsequently “disappeared.”
In a statement, Awami Tehreek Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, Central General Secretary Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar, Deputy Secretary Advocate Raheel Bhutto and other leaders condemned the action, saying arrests and cases would not intimidate the people of Sindh.
The leaders said the party’s “Awami Sujagi Muham” (People’s Awareness Campaign), launched against what they described as the occupation of Sindh’s land and resources, the proposed division of the province, and the construction of new canals and dams, would continue.
They announced that awareness activities would be held in Larkana and other cities of Sindh on Friday.
The Awami Tehreek leaders also criticised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent remarks about Sindhi nationalists, alleging that the Sindh Police had become politically influenced and was being used against peaceful political workers.
They accused the Pakistan Peoples Party of pursuing policies that could undermine Sindh’s unity and alleged that agreements with the establishment had facilitated projects involving canals and water resources. The leaders also criticised the government’s policies regarding undocumented foreigners and alleged that militant networks could be exploited to create instability in Karachi and Hyderabad.
The party warned against what it described as attempts to divide Sindh through constitutional or administrative measures, saying that the province’s territorial and historical unity would not be compromised.
“We want to make it clear that the Sindhi nation is not afraid of arrests or cases,” the leaders said, reiterating their commitment to a peaceful and democratic struggle.
They vowed that the people of Sindh would respond to what they called every “anti-Sindh conspiracy” through continued peaceful political mobilisation.
