Demand for Dar-ul-Amans Rises by 14% in Punjab, UNFPA Study Highlights Urgent Need for Increased Funding

Lahore: A newly launched Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Costing Study by UNFPA Pakistan reveals a 14% increase in demand for Dar-ul-Amans across Punjab, signaling a growing need for shelter and protection services for survivors.

The study, conducted in collaboration with the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Department, Government of the Punjab, and supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office under AWAZ II, was implemented by the University of Galway.

Currently, the Punjab government allocates PKR 10 to 15 million annually per Dar-ul-Aman. However, to meet quality standards and provide comprehensive support, the study estimates a resource requirement of PKR 2 billion.

The findings aim to strengthen the province’s GBV response system and ensure survivors have access to safe, dignified care and support.
