CeJ honored to host Ms. Kanni Wignaraja- Assistant
Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of the UN Development
Programme (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific at the Centre.
She was
accompanied by senior UNDP officials including Resident Representative Pakistan
Samuel Rizk.
Her visit
focused on the advancements made by the iVerify Pakistan platform, a UN
fact-checking initiative crucial for combating misinformation and
disinformation in Pakistan, which is being implemented by CEJ.
Ms. Wignaraja
met with the fact-checking team behind the success of the platform and
expressed her appreciation for their dedication to information integrity.
During the
visit, CEJ Director Amber Rahim Shamsi noted the significant benefits of
collaborating with the UNDP Pakistan, enhancing the capacity to educate and
equip society against disinformation.
In a digital
landscape flooded with misinformation, fact-checking is not only necessary, but
a responsibility- and that is a responsibility that the CEJ-IBA as a
non-partisan organization is dedicated to upholding.
