Sindhyaani Tahreek Announces Massive Rally against Canal Construction, Lawlessness, and Land Occupation

SUKKUR ( The Sindhyaani Tahreek has announced a massive rally on December 22 in Sukkur to protest against the construction of six new canals, rising lawlessness, and the occupation of Sindh's lands.
During a press conference held at the Sukkur Press Club on Friday, Sindhyaani Tahreek leaders, including President Umrah Samoon, Mahe Noor Mallah, Advocate Sorath Mangnhar, Rehana Baloch, and Sindhoo Bapar, emphasized the urgent need to protect Sindh’s historical sites, including Qilla of Aror, Bukkur, from encroachments.
The leaders accused the ruling class of Punjab of exploiting Sindh's water resources for the past 150 years and said that recent amendments to the IRSA Act aim to sell the Indus River's water to multinational corporations.
They expressed concern over the federal government's decisions, claiming they disproportionately affect smaller provinces, particularly Sindh, and threaten national unity.
The leaders stated that the construction of six new canals would devastate Sindh, describing it as more dangerous than an atomic bomb. They said that by drying the Indus River, the region is being pushed toward environmental change. They added thattThe lack of water in the delta has caused severe damage to the economy of Sindh and the rest of the country.
They reiterated that the Indus River is the collective property of the Sindhi nation, not any government or Pakistan Peoples Party (ruling party of Sindh, ) and warned that the people of Sindh would resist any attempts to sell their river’s water.
The leaders strongly criticized the federal government for allocating Indus River water to foreign companies, calling it an international crime. They added that blocking the flow of the Indus River is an international crime; federal government is committing this crime by initiating the construction of six new canals from the Indus River.
In addition, they condemned the murder of Zahid Mirani in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Malir, and called on the Sindh government to take action against those responsible. They also strongly condemns the extrajudicial killing of Raza Hussain zangejo and demanded justice for the victim.
They also criticized the Sindh government for its failure to arrest the murderers of journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar and Nasurallah Gaddani.
They accused the authorities of failing the control of lawlessness, adding that, Sindh Government is protecting dacoits instead of ensuring the safety of Sindh’s citizens. They also highlighted the alarming rising on honor killing in sindh, stating that these atrocities have become a routine practice under tribal Jirgas.
