Special Focus on Education for Workers’ Children, Minister of Labour’s Commitment
Karachi (December 16) – Minister for Labour Sindh, Shahid Abdul Salam Thahim, has stated that no negligence will be tolerated in the implementation of the minimum wage policy of 37,000 rupees per month for unskilled workers. The Sindh government is actively taking measures to protect workers' rights and improve their welfare. He emphasized that strict action is being taken to enforce the policy, with directives issued to Labour Department officials to accelerate inspections of factories and institutions. Institutions failing to comply with the law will face immediate action.
Minister Thahim added that the Sindh government is also taking special initiatives for the education and health of workers' children. Through the Workers Welfare Board, free education is being provided to the children of workers in educational institutions. In addition, vocational training opportunities are being offered to ensure these children can become economically self-sufficient in the future. Currently, thousands of students are enrolled in Workers Welfare Schools, and efforts are underway to establish more schools.
The minister further stated that institutions exploiting workers or depriving them of their rights would be held accountable under the law. The Sindh government is committed to the protection and empowerment of workers, ensuring they receive fair wages, educational opportunities, and quality healthcare.
