Jhudo /Mirpurkhas The struggle by Awami Tehreek against corporate farming and six new canals continues. The people staged a one-kilometer march from Jhudo New Bypass to the Town Committee Office, culminating in a sit-in at Station Road. A large number of farmers, growers, and women from the Sindhyani Tehreek actively participated in the march.
Participants raised strong slogans such as, “Bilawal, make it clear: canals or Pakistan?”, “Stop encroachments on Sindh’s lands,” and “End corporate farming projects.”
Addressing the sit-in, Awami Tehreek’s Central Information Secretary, Lal Jarwar; District Mirpurkhas General Secretary, Ayaz Khoso; central leaders Advocate Mumtaz Khoso, Advocate Ayaz Kaloi; Sindhyani Tehreek leaders Zubeda Kaloi, Noor Bano Khoso, Pari Kolhi, Azmat Khoso, and Kalsoom Rind; Awami Tehreek Taluka President Mumtaz Junejo; Talib Jarwar, and others said that under the guise of corporate farming, millions of acres of Sindh’s land are being handed over to Military backed companies and the foreign investors.
They stated that the corporate farming project is an effort to hand over the country entirely to global imperial forces, depriving the Sindhi people of their land and the Indus River, effectively rendering them stateless in their own homeland, similar to the Palestinians. These projects are a lethal poison for the country.
They added that the plan to extract six new canals from the Indus River through amendments to the IRSA Act is a death warrant for the people of Sindh. The federal government of Pakistan wants to forcibly occupy the Indus River and realize the dream of "Greater Punjab."
The leaders affirmed that the Sindhi people would continue their struggle against all plans that seek to enslave them permanently under the ruling elite of Punjab. Occupations of the Indus River and Sindh’s lands are unacceptable, and the consequences of pushing Sindh against the wall will be disastrous. They demanded the immediate cancellation of corporate farming projects and plans to extract canals from the Indus River.
The leaders further stated that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Asif Ali Zardari amended the IRSA Act and handed over all authority to a single province, Punjab. The PPP has betrayed the people of Sindh after securing their votes and stabbed them in the back.
