May Day Protests in Sindh Demand an End to Corporate Land Grabs

*Hyderabad On the occasion of International Labor Day (May 1st), Awami Tehreek and Sindhi Mazdoor Tehreek have announced mass protest rallies across Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Diplo, Mirpurkhas, and Nagarparkar. The protests will highlight the struggle of local farmers against corporate farming and the occupation of Sindh’s water resources.
In a joint press statement, Awami Tehreek’s central president, Advocate Vasand Thari, along with Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar, Lal Jarwar, and Advocate Najeebur Rehman Mahesar, condemned the large-scale transfer of Sindh’s land to corporate entities. According to the statement, the allotment of 52,713 acres of land to the Green Corporate Initiative Private Limited Company marks the beginning of a much larger takeover.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful and democratic struggle until Sindh’s lands are reclaimed and redistributed among local farmers. They also called for the restoration of the natural flow of the Indus River, which they say is being disrupted by unchecked corporate expansion.
The protest rallies are expected to draw large numbers of workers, farmers, and activists advocating for labor rights and land justice across the province.
