Awami Tehreek Rallies Against PPP’s Alleged Land Deals and Water Crisis
Daharki, Sindh – In a bold demonstration against corporate farming, artificial water scarcity, and lawlessness in Sindh, Awami Tehreek organized a massive protest rally from Awami Hotel to the Press Club in Daharki. The rally was led by the party’s Central President, Advocate Vasand Thari, alongside other key leaders from Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek.
Addressing the sit-in outside the Press Club, Awami Tehreek leaders accused the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of selling Sindh’s land to corporations, claiming that millions of acres were being leased off. They warned that if the 52,713-acre lease is not canceled, the consequences could be even more severe than the historic anti-canal movement.
The leaders condemned what they called the deliberate theft of Sindh’s water, allegedly orchestrated by Punjab’s rulers. They asserted that despite an abundance of water in the Indus Delta system, Sindh’s share has been blocked, leading to severe drought-like conditions. They also denounced the Council of Common Interests (CCI) as an unfair institution dominated by Punjab, alleging that the PPP is using the CCI as a platform to sell the Indus River.
In addition to addressing the water crisis and corporate land acquisition, Awami Tehreek leaders accused authorities of enabling lawlessness in districts like Ghotki, Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Sukkur. They claimed that these regions have been handed over to criminal gangs, with NATO-grade weapons reportedly circulating in the area, while local officials turn a blind eye.
Awami Tehreek vowed to continue its peaceful struggle for the protection of Sindh’s land and water resources. “As long as there is sand in the riverbed, our fight will not end,” they declared, promising to resist all anti-Sindh decisions with unwavering determination.
The demonstration saw significant participation from activists and concerned citizens, signaling growing unrest over the issue of land leases, water scarcity, and governance failures in Sindh.
