Sindh’s Resistance Rises: Awami Tehreek Declares War on Canal Projects & Land Grabs**

Hyderabad The Central Committee meeting of Awami Tehreek was held at D10, Palijo House, Qasimabad, Hyderabad, under the chairmanship of Central President Advocate Vasand Thari. The meeting discussed global, national, and Sindh's political situation and made key decisions.
The meeting strongly condemned the cases filed by the Sindh government against local hosts of the Baberloi sit-in and the doctors who set up medical camps there. It was stated that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has become completely subservient to the Punjab province. The party rejects the institution of the CCI. As long as the structure of the CCI is not reconstituted on the basis of equal provincial consensus, no decision made by the CCI will be accepted by the people of Sindh.
The PPP has betrayed the people of Sindh by failing to reject canal projects outright. Murad Ali Shah and Shehbaz Sharif have committed fraud against Sindh. Until the projects related to canals, corporate farming, and the plundering of Sindh’s natural resources are revoked, the people's resistance will continue.
The meeting decided to organize a conference in Karachi on May 17, 2025, against corporate farming, canals, and the looting of Sindh’s mineral resources. Political and social leaders, water experts, writers, intellectuals, poets, journalists, lawyers, teachers, students, farmers, and labor leaders from all four provinces and the Seraiki region will be invited to participate. A joint action plan will be formulated at the conference.
It was also decided to hold protest rallies on May 8 in Talhar, May 9 in Bhaghan Thatta, May 11 in Moro, and May 18 in Kandiaro against corporate farming, canals, and resource exploitation. Sindhyani Tehreek women will announce in various cities against corporate farming and canal projects to aware the public.
Addressing the meeting, Central President Advocate Vasand Thari said that Punjab’s rulers treat Sindh as a conquered territory. Murad Ali Shah has not withdrawn the notification regarding the over 52,713 acres of land allocated for corporate farming. Moreover, a decision has been made to hand over 108,000 acres of forest land in Matiari and Jamshoro to a public-private partnership. Similarly, millions of acres of land of Karachi’s KPT are being auctioned. These land-grabbing decisions are outright anti-Sindh and against national integrity.
He further stated that despite protests by Sindhi people, Punjab’s rulers are forcibly operating the Taunsa-Punjnad and Chashma-Jhelum link canals. Water from Sindh’s share is being taken through TP and CJ link canals while people in Sindh are deprived of drinking water. The people of Sindh will not tolerate this behavior.
Advocate Vasand Thari said that the Sindh government has become a complete appendage of the federal regime. The rulers of Sindh have no connection with the Sindhi people—they only care about their positions of power.
The meeting was attended by Central General Secretary Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar, Noor Ahmed Katiar, Abdul Qadir Ranto, Advocate Raheel Bhutto, Noor Nabi Palijo, Ali Muhammad Parvez Memon, Izhar Daudpoto, Hussain Soomro, Hasna Rahujo, Abdul Rahman Samoon, Jam Tamachi, Iqbal Jarwar, Advocate Ismail Khaskheli, Mansoor Bapar, Mir Parvez Daudpoto, Advocate Sachal Bhatti, Majeed Sagar Parhiyar, Advocate Mumtaz Khoso, and others.
