Experts talks on AI and its threats

The AI experts has said that there should be a law about AI as it is bringing challenges and threats specially to children and women through disinformation and fake videos. They shared these views while talking at the panel discussion which was held on “The Future of Generative AI: Opportunities, Risks and Societal Impact” on Thursday, the second and last day of the 4th International Conference organised by Sindh Madressatul Islam University on “Sustainable Computing and AI: Shaping the Future of Industry and Society”.
Dr. Rana Shahzad Qaiser, Director General of Information Science and Technology Department, Government of Sindh said the Sindh government is working on AI policy, because there is a need to guide people about real and disinformation, as fake information is widely being spread through AI. “We also seen fake information from the side of India during recent Indian aggression,” he said.
Dr. Rana Shahzad was of the view that due to AI public sector jobs are shrinking, therefore students should make those projects that would be converted into products. He also said that our women must know AI, hence they could earn money from their homes.
Ms. Ammara Aftab, founder and CEO of PRO AI Global said AI is not a new, but it was surfaced in 1956, the present day AI is Supper Artificial Intelligence, hence besides children, parents must be aware about it and its software as they could guide their children from disinformation and fake videos. She further said that recently a girl went into trauma in Lahore due to a fake video, that is why we have to save our children for such conditions. Quoting some experts, she said some people are of the view that AI should be slowdown, otherwise it will rule on us.
Prof. Dr. Eng. Mohammad Zahid Tunio, Dean Faculty of CEET, Dawood University said HEC is being including AI in the course as the younger generation could learn it during their study.
Mr. Atiq Raja, CEO AR Trainings and Consultancy said it is necessary to save creative minds and creative abilities of children from disinformation. Apart from it we should not completely believe in AI generated content. He further said without knowing foundations of AI we couldn’t get anything from it. As it is a human centric, therefore, we should have the knowledge of its basics.
Mr. Abdul Samad, Dean School of Science and Engineering, Habib University, Karachi said these kinds of debate can be helpful in making policies about AI. He said our generation was familiar with books but today’s generation is preferring soft version of text, despite that we must have critical thinking.
Prof. Dr. Zulfikar Ali Memon, Director FAST National University Karachi said AI has not humanized touch, therefore we have to put a question before it specifically, because human has made all models, that help the AI to generate content. He also said we should not trust on AI generated content completely but we should analyze it according to our knowledge and thinking.
Dr. Inteaz Hussain, Assistant Professor at Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences moderated the session.
Later on Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor of SMIU gave away shields to the guests.
