Sindh Government’s Educational Revolution: Pakistan’s First AI-Based Online Teacher Training Program Launched
For the first time in Pakistan, the Sindh government has launched an AI-powered online training program for teachers. This pilot initiative is a collaboration between the School Education Department, UNICEF, and Khan Academy Pakistan, aimed at modernizing teaching methodologies.
At the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah was present alongside Secretary of School Education Zahid Ali Abbasi, Chief Curriculum Advisor Dr. Fauzia Khan, UNICEF Sindh Education Manager Abeer Maqbool, UNICEF Sindh Chief Field Officer Prem Bahadur Chand, Khan Academy Pakistan CEO Zeeshan Hasan, and board members Amin Hashwani and Naeem Zamindar.
Under this six-month pilot project, 3,500 teachers from Dadu, Tando Allahyar, Tharparkar, and Umerkot will receive training. The program includes Khanmigo AI modules that assist teachers with lesson planning, learning material development, and classroom engagement. Training will be delivered through live online sessions and self-learning modules, with certificates awarded upon completion.
Minister Sardar Ali Shah stated that this initiative reflects the Sindh government’s commitment to innovation and quality in education. He expressed hope that AI-based training will empower teachers with greater confidence and enable students in remote areas to benefit from globally competitive education.
Khan Academy CEO Zeeshan Hasan said Khanmigo AI will save teachers time, enhance creativity, and increase student engagement. UNICEF’s Abeer Maqbool emphasized that the goal is to ensure quality, effective, and inclusive education for every child through AI.
This project is expected to bring transformative change not only in Sindh but across Pakistan’s education system. Based on the results of the six-month pilot, plans are in place to expand the model province-wide.
