Awami Tehreek Rallies Sindh Against Water Crisis and Constitutional Amendments Ahead of Palijo Anniversary

A province-wide contact campaign has been intensified across Sindh in connection with the 8th death anniversary of Awami Tehreek founder and revolutionary leader Rasool Bux Palijo. Efforts are also underway to make the countrywide public gathering scheduled for June 7, 2026, in Jungshahi a success, with meetings continuing with political, social, legal, student, literary, and cultural circles.
In this regard, Awami Tehreek Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, Central Senior Vice President Noor Ahmed Katiar, central leaders Advocate Khalid Tunio, Advocate Naveed Abbas Kalhoro, and other leaders met Awami Workers Party Federal President Akhtar Hussain Advocate, hero of the March 4 student movement Masood Noorani, renowned artist Sheema Kermani, Sindh Bar Council member Advocate Rashid Rajar, Advocate Naeem Talpur, Zubair Abro, Mir Haq Nawaz Talpur, and several political, social, and legal leaders to invite them to participate in the public gathering marking the 8th anniversary of Rasool Bux Palijo.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that Rasool Bux Palijo was a great revolutionary thinker, lawyer, writer, intellectual, and a powerful voice for oppressed nations and classes. They said he spent his entire life struggling against dictatorship, imperialism, national oppression, feudalism, and religious extremism. They further stated that due to the wrong policies of the rulers, the country is currently trapped in political, economic, and constitutional crises.
The leaders said that Sindh is currently facing a severe water crisis. Through canal projects and corporate farming schemes on the Indus River, conspiracies are being carried out to seize Sindh’s land and water resources, which is equivalent to turning Sindh into a desert. They said attempts are being made to deprive the people of Sindh of water, thereby destroying the agriculture, economy, and lives of millions of people, against which Awami Tehreek will continue resistance at every level.
The leaders further stated that through the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, attempts are being made to attack provincial autonomy and grant more centralized powers to the federation, which they termed dangerous for the federal structure and national unity of the country. They said that any attack on the 18th Constitutional Amendment is in fact an attack on the rights of smaller provinces, which the people of Sindh will never accept.
They said that incidents of karo-kari, violence against women, forced marriages, abuse of innocent girls, and injustice are continuously increasing in Sindh, while the rulers remain silent spectators. They added that Rasool Bux Palijo and the Sindhyani Tehreek always struggled for women’s freedom, equality, and a dignified society.
The leaders said that the June 7 public gathering in Jungshahi will strongly raise its voice against inflation, unemployment, lawlessness, imperialist intervention, terrorism, the water crisis, anti-Sindh projects, and anti-people economic policies. They added that political, social, student, peasant, labor, women, and lawyers’ organizations from Sindh and other parts of the country will participate in the gathering.
