Court Adjourns Maria Sario Case in Hyderabad Amid Bail Plea Arguments

In Hyderabad today, the court heard the Maria Sario case, where police requested further remand of the accused woman and the arrested transgender persons. However, defense lawyers argued that all charges mentioned in the FIR are bailable. The court adjourned the hearing to the next date for further arguments.
Maria Sario, a junior clerk, had allegedly been appointed illegally as in-charge of the Human Rights Cell and given inspector-level authority in the SSP office. She is accused of summoning Lady ASI Ayesha to the office, subjecting her to violence, and issuing serious threats. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Police maintained that the accused and others damaged government property and misbehaved with police officials, hence further remand was necessary for investigation. Lawyers countered that the charges were minor and bailable, demanding immediate release on bail.
Meanwhile, transgender persons staged protests in Hyderabad demanding Maria Sario’s reinstatement, claiming the action against her was discriminatory. Human rights activists described the case as an example of misuse of power within the police system.
