Awami Tehreek Condemns PPP’s ‘CCI Charade’: Connects Canals to Digital Census Fraud, Blasts Punjab’s CCI Dominance

Hyderabad The central president of Awami Tehreek, Advocate Vasand Thari, along with Noor Ahmed Katiar, Sattar Rand, Lal Jarwar, and Advocate Raheel Bhutto, stated in a joint press release that the Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) announcement to approach the Council of Common Interests (CCI) against the canals is a fraud and deception. The PPP is deceiving and staging dramas with the public.

The CCI is dominated by Punjab, where decisions against Sindh are being justified under the guise of majority. Currently, four out of the 8 CCI members are from Punjab, and the structure of the CCI has always been hegemonized by Punjab. The PPP previously betrayed the Sindhi nation by getting the controversial digital census results approved through the CCI, and now it is repeating the same fraudulent census tactics. They claimed that decisions based on so_called majority are systematically anti-Sindh.

The ruling party of Sindh, the PPP, is legitimizing anti-Sindh projects. President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the canals. The PPP is using opposition to the canals as a ploy to pacify public anger.

They emphasized that the Indus River is the lifeline of Sindh's survival. The death of the Indus River would mean the death of millions of humans, animals, birds, aquatic life, and the delta. The decisions made against Sindh under the CCI’s fake majority hold no legal or constitutional validity. The people of Sindh will never accept decisions based on this illegitimate majority.

The PPP must stop its theatrics. If it genuinely opposes the canals, it should pass resolutions against them in the Balochistan Assembly, National Assembly, and Senate, sever ties with the federal government, and pressure Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s administration to issue a permanent notification rejecting the canals.

The leaders declared that until a clear notification is issued to reject the anti-Sindh, and anti-people projects—such as canals diverting water from the Indus, amendments to the IRSA Act, and corporate farming—the Sindhi nation will continue its peaceful democratic struggle.
