President's Call for Sustainable Practices to Tackle Climate Change

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi emphasized the urgent need to improve energy efficiency, adopt sustainable practices, and shift priorities to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change. Speaking at the "Green Presidency of Pakistan" project event at Aiwan-e-Sadr, he highlighted the significance of transitioning to renewable energy sources and reforestation in curbing the detrimental effects on the planet's climate and ecosystems.

Green Presidency Initiative's Impact on Energy Usage and Recognition

The Green Presidency of Pakistan, a flagship initiative, witnessed the installation of a one-megawatt solar PV system and the effective implementation of energy conservation measures. President Alvi announced a substantial 42.5% reduction in Aiwan-e-Sadr's energy usage, equivalent to a remarkable decrease of 3,144 tonnes of greenhouse gases or the planting of 142,090 mature trees. The project received international acclaim, winning the prestigious "International Energy Project of the Year 2023" award out of 129 global projects.

President's Call for Global Cooperation and Recognition of Clean Energy Transition

President Alvi urged global cooperation for promoting peace and discouraging wars, recognizing them as significant obstacles diverting attention from addressing global warming. Despite Pakistan contributing less than 1% to carbon emissions, the country faced substantial losses in last year's devastating floods caused by climate change. The president emphasized the importance of transitioning towards clean energy and called for collective efforts across various sectors to achieve efficient energy conservation.
