Who is Asif Ali Zardari?

 

Asif Ali Zardari, Co-Chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) from Sindh and former President Asif Ali Zardari is becoming the first President to be elected for the second term.


For the first time, he took the oath of office in September 2008, the then Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar administered the oath to him and in September 2013, after completing the constitutional term of office, Asif Zardari left in a dignified manner.

During his presidency, 3 Prime Ministers worked with him, including Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Mir Hazar Khan Khoso as Acting Prime Minister.


After the marriage of  Benazir Bhutto in the year 1988, Asif Zardari moved to the Prime Minister's House along with her, so actually he formally started practical and parliamentary politics at the same time from the Prime Minister's House.




In 1990, when Benazir Bhutto's government was dismissed, Asif Zardari became a member of the National Assembly in the subsequent elections.


Then in the year 1993, he was also a minister in the caretaker prime minister Balkh Sher Mazari's cabinet. Then, in the second term of Benazir Bhutto, he also became a member of the National Assembly and Minister of Environment and Investment.

From 1997 to 1999, he was also a member of the Upper House.

He was also a member of the National Assembly from 2018 to 2023 and is now enjoying the honor of becoming the President for the second time.

He was in jail for 11 years on alleged charges of corruption.- He is also called by names ranging from Yaar Ka Yaar, Ek Zardari Sabpe Bhari to Mr. 10 Percent.
