Open manholes in Karachi are
swallowing human lives. Last year also, five people including three children
fell into the sewer and died in different incidents. But the situation did not
change.
In Karachi, children and adults are losing
their lives by falling into open manholes.
In Karachi last year, five persons,
including three children and a woman, drowned in the sewers and lost their
lives in four incidents.
On April 8, 2023, a 45-year-old woman
fell into a drain in Orangi Sector 14 and a man who jumped to save her died.
On 6 May 2023, 8-year-old Abhihan
fell into an open drain in Gulshan Iqbal 13D. Ten months later, the child's
father filed a case. The child's body has not been found yet.
On August 13, 2023, a 4-year-old girl
died after falling into an open sewer in Muach Goth municipality.
On August 14, 2023, a similar tragic
accident took place in Memongoth, Malir. A two-and-a-half-year-old girl fell
into a manhole in the area and slept eternally.
