Sindh Civil Society Intensifies Campaign against Religious Extremism and Extra-Judicial Killings

KARACHI,In a powerful demonstration of unity and determination, Sindh's civil society organizations Tuesday announced their commitment to intensify their ongoing campaign against religious extremism and extra-judicial killings throughout the province.
The announcement came during a significant gathering at the provincial office of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) here.
Following the success of the inaugural Rawadari (Intolerance) March held in Karachi on October 13, 2024, organizers have announced a second march scheduled for November 23 in Hyderabad.
This expansion of the movement reflects growing concerns about human rights violations in the region and demonstrates the increasing momentum of civil society activism in Sindh.
The announcement emerged from a crucial meeting titled "Discussion on Human Rights Violation and Role of Civil Society for Protecting Human Rights Violation in Context of Extra Judicial Killing and Custodial Deaths." The event was collaboratively organized by several prominent human rights organizations including Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Sindh Human Rights Defenders Network (SHRDN), Joint Action Committee (JAC), Sindh Women Lawyers Alliance.
Distinguished speakers at the event included Ms. Anis Haroon, Member Sindh National Commission for Human Rights, Asad Iqbal Butt, Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Ali Palh of SHRDN, writer and intellectual Jami Chandio, activists Ms Shireen Khokhar, Ms Aliya Bakhshal, Ms Sindhu Nawaz Ghanghro, Ms Rumasa Jami, Saif Samejo, Qazi Khizar and others.
A central focus of the discussion was the case of Dr. Shahnawaz, whose death in police custody in Mirpurkhas has become a rallying point for human rights advocates. Speakers emphasized how this case exemplifies the urgent need for police reforms and greater accountability in law enforcement practices. They resolved to take the case to jts final conclusion.
"The rising incidents of extra-judicial killings and religious intolerance demand immediate attention and concrete action," stated the speakers during the meeting.
"Our continued mobilization through events like the Rawadari March demonstrates our unwavering commitment to justice and human rights," the resolved.
