Demolition Begins on Adjacent Buildings After Lyari Collapse; More Declared Unsafe

Demolition work has begun on the building adjacent to the one that collapsed in Lyari’s Baghdadi area, after it was evacuated. Another nearby dilapidated building is also set to be demolished. The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) is preparing to seal two more buildings in Lyari’s Daryabad area. Residents are currently busy removing their belongings from the affected buildings. Footage has also surfaced showing the moments just before the collapse.
After evacuating the adjacent building, demolition is underway, with its walls already brought down. The process is expected to be completed within 3 to 4 days.
Victims have expressed frustration, saying they have received no aid and that the government has yet to decide on alternative housing. They’ve been left on the streets for three days without shelter or support.
The SBCA is preparing to seal two additional five-storey buildings in Daryabad, which have been declared unsafe. These buildings contain 22 residential units. In recent days, eight buildings in Lyari have been sealed due to safety concerns.
Footage from just before the collapse in Baghdadi has emerged, showing the building’s pillars breaking with a loud crash, prompting people in the garage to flee.
