KARACHI Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, and Hussain Aslam Bhatti chaired an important meeting today, during which historic decisions were made for the welfare of the province’s fisherfolk.

The Sindh government decided to launch the “Benazir Fisherfolk Card” to address the economic hardships of fishermen. Through this card, needy and underprivileged fishermen will receive direct monthly financial assistance aimed at improving their living standards.

Briefing the meeting, Director Fisheries Asim Kareem explained that the Benazir Fisherfolk Card would be a modern digital smart card embedded with a QR code and integrated with NADRA. This system will ensure direct disbursement of financial aid to fishermen, especially during fishing ban seasons or emergencies that impact their livelihood.

On the occasion, Minister Ali Malkani said the project was a realization of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s vision and pro-poor philosophy, who always prioritized the welfare of the working class. He added that the initiative was being undertaken on the special instructions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is carrying forward his mother’s mission for the prosperity and protection of common people, especially the fisherfolk community.

Calling the decision a “revolutionary milestone” for fisherfolk, Malkani reiterated that the Sindh government would continue to take more measures to ensure the welfare and economic stability of this vital community.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Livestock Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi, MD Fish Harbour Zahid Khemtio, Director Fisheries Asim Kareem, and Deputy Secretary Livestock Muhammad Imran.
