Sukkur (H.O) Commissioner Sukkur Division, Abid Saleem Qureshi, presided over a meeting at his office with officers from the Sindh Small Industries Corporation, SITE Sukkur, and Industries departments. The meeting focused on career counseling for youth and exploring employment opportunities for them.
On this occasion, Commissioner Sukkur Division, Abid Saleem Qureshi, directed the officers of Industries, Sindh Small Industries, and SITE to organize study tours for university students and students from other educational institutions to the industrial establishments of Sukkur. He stated that seminars should be conducted to inform the youth about the employment opportunities available for them in the industrial sector. He said that besides skill development courses, short computer courses should also be arranged for the youth, and in this regard, the cooperation of various social organizations could be sought to provide free short courses for the youth.
Commissioner Sukkur said that online businesses can be established for local dates, pickles, desi ghee, mangoes, and other items, while women can earn better profits from home through handicrafts, rilli (traditional patchwork quilts), Sindhi topi (caps), carpets, and other handmade items.
Commissioner Sukkur, Abid Saleem Qureshi, said that youth should learn to use Instagram, Facebook pages, and WhatsApp Business. He mentioned that free admissions and free transportation could be provided for short courses at Khairpur's Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development. He noted that better work is being done through the services of a better faculty at this university in Khairpur Mir's for the youth.
Commissioner Sukkur said that this is the era of skills; youth should not wait for a miracle for employment, and for a young person in a country with a rapidly growing population, relying solely on a government job is unwise. He stated that by learning skills like plumbing, electrical work, mobile mechanics, and others, youth can become self-reliant. He emphasized that in the present era, industry is the only solution to the problems of unemployment. "We all have to work together to guide the youth towards skills and personal business under entrepreneurship," he said. He added that if a job is not available in a government or private institution, there are still many other opportunities available. Career counseling for youth is very essential in today's age, he added.
Commissioner Sukkur, Abid Saleem Qureshi, instructed that all officers should work together with better coordination to develop a framework and inform [him] about what we can do for the youth. He said that another meeting will soon be convened on the prepared framework, to which the administrators of STEVTA (Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority) and computer course centers will also be invited. He stated that interaction between STEVTA officers, administrators of computer centers, and university students will be arranged.
Commissioner Sukkur said, "A lot can be done with your cooperation and role. The platform officially exists; we just need to show seriousness", he added.
On this occasion, the officers of Industries, Sindh Small Industries, and SITE reiterated their full support for the Commissioner Sukkur's objective, and the officers assured that a joint framework would be prepared and presented soon.
The meeting was attended by Directors of SITE Sukkur, Abdul Karim Mallano, Deputy Director Industries, Zakaullah Durrani, Additional Director Sindh Small Industries Sukkur, Muhammad Mohsin, and other relevant officers.
