Karachi/Nawabshah (18 October): A high-level meeting on public health issues and the performance of the Health Department was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Pechuho in District Shaheed Benazirabad. The District Health Officer briefed the meeting in detail on the rising cases of communicable diseases, including dengue, malaria, and HIV/AIDS.

During the meeting, the provincial health minister expressed strong displeasure over the lack of effective action against illegal laboratories, blood banks, and private medical centers in the district. Dr. Azra Pechuho issued strict directives to immediately improve the department’s performance, instructing the district administration, health officials, and Sindh Healthcare Commission to intensify crackdowns against unauthorized laboratories, medical centers, canola centers, blood banks, and surgical stores in view of the increasing HIV cases.

The minister said that “unauthorized laboratories, quack doctors, and unregistered medical centers will not be allowed to play with public health.” She emphasized that urgent and effective measures must be taken to control the rising cases of malaria and HIV/AIDS, as providing quality healthcare to citizens remains the top priority of the Sindh government.

Dr. Pechuho further warned that no leniency would be shown toward officers demonstrating poor performance.

The meeting was attended by Director Sindh Healthcare Commission Dr. Zubair, Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Abdul Samad Nizamani, SSP Shabir Ahmed Sethar, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Gulshan Memon, MS Dr. Yar Ali Jamali, Information Officer Sher Muhammad Jamali, and other officials from relevant departments.
