Ghani Aman Chandio’s Disappearance

Incident
Ghani Aman Chandio had come to a private hospital in Karachi to attend to his twin daughters. According to his sister, Sindhu Aman, Rangers and plainclothes personnel surrounded the hospital, seized the CCTV system, and forcibly detained Ghani Aman, taking him to an undisclosed location.
Sindh High Court Proceedings
On October 30, a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court for Ghani Aman’s recovery. The court issued notices to the IG Sindh and other relevant authorities, demanding a response by November 14. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that Ghani Aman was abducted from the hospital without any legal procedure, while his newborn children were under treatment.
Reaction from Nationalist Groups and Lawyers
Lawyers condemned the incident as “an attack on democratic political activity.” institutions are targeting peaceful political activists, which is a violation of constitutional and legal norms.
Civil society lawyers argued in court that this enforced disappearance violates Article 10-A of the Constitution (right to a fair trial), and that state institutions must operate within the bounds of law.
Statistics on Enforced Disappearances in Sindh – 2025
From March 2011 to August 2025, the Inquiry Commission received 10,618 cases, of which 8,873 have been disposed of.
In August 2025 alone, the Commission resolved 103 cases.
Dozens of cases were reported in Sindh during 2025. However, discrepancies exist between the data from human rights organizations and the Commission. Several cases were labeled as “bogus,” while some individuals were removed from the list by declaring them absconders.
Ghani Aman Chandio’s disappearance is not just about one individual—it symbolizes the struggle against state repression, constitutional violations, and the erosion of democratic rights.
