Awami Tehreek Calls for Mass Participation in November 16 Protest March Against Constitutional Amendments

Shahpur Chakar, Awami Tehreek leaders have urged the people of Sindh to join a major protest march on November 16, organized by the Sindhiyani Tehreek, to oppose what they describe as anti-democratic policies and constitutional threats to Sindh’s unity and resources.
Following visits to several villages in Shahpur Chakar — including Sharafuddin Bugti, Mithal Wasan, Umarabad, and Amanullah Dahri — central coordination secretary Lal Jarwar, district president Attaullah Anar, Rano Kundani, Ali Nawaz Dahri, and Umar Dahri addressed journalists at Shahpur Chakar Press Club. They announced that the Sanghar district general council of Awami Tehreek has unanimously decided to fully participate in the upcoming protest.
🗣️ Condemnation of Political and Bureaucratic Forces
Speaking to the media, the leaders accused power-hungry politicians, the establishment, and bureaucracy of imposing a hybrid martial law that has suspended constitutional rights, national autonomy, and basic human freedoms.
They criticized the government’s inaction regarding Afghan refugees, citing a press conference by the DG ISPR that acknowledged threats from Afghan-linked terrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling. Despite this, they said, no steps have been taken to repatriate the millions of Afghan refugees residing in Sindh — a move previously ordered by the Supreme Court in the Karachi unrest case.
⚠️ Opposition to 27th Constitutional Amendment
Awami Tehreek leaders strongly opposed the proposed 27th constitutional amendment, calling it an imperialist conspiracy to divide Sindh into new provinces. They warned that this plan could lead to the creation of a “new Israel” in Sindh — a scheme more dangerous than the historical One Unit policy — aimed at seizing control of smaller provinces’ resources.
They accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of siding with undemocratic forces for political gain, just as they claim it did in 1971. The PPP’s silence on the new provinces issue, they said, amounts to a betrayal of Sindh’s unity.
📜 Critique of Legal Amendments and Governance
The leaders also condemned recent amendments to the PECA Act, the Anti-Terrorism Act, and other laws, describing them as tools of undeclared martial law. They claimed the 26th amendment has already compromised judicial independence, and warned that the 27th amendment would give the federal government unchecked authority to create new provinces.
They alleged that the campaign for new provinces is part of a broader plan to weaken Pakistan and hand it over to global imperialist powers. According to them, the revival of MQM’s past organizational structure is part of this strategy, aimed at reasserting control over Sindh.
🌊 Neglect of Flood Victims and Resource Exploitation
Instead of focusing on rehabilitation of flood victims, the leaders said, the government is pushing for the controversial Kalabagh Dam project. They also expressed concern over federal plans to take control of Sindh’s oil, gas, and ports — warning that this would open a new chapter of resource exploitation.

Awami Tehreek appealed to the people of Sindh to join the November 16 march in large numbers to send a clear message to the ruling powers: the conscious people of Sindh will continue their peaceful democratic struggle to protect their identity and resources.
