Karachi: Pakistan’s only modern digital media setup, Nuqta 137, has decided to lay off 37 employees with a one-month notice. This decision has sent shockwaves not only within the organization but across the entire media industry.
According to sources, staff from the head office and bureaus in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad — including sports desk personnel, producers, editors, cameramen, anchors, and other team members — have been let go. After one month, these individuals will be officially separated from the organization. While they will receive gratuity, the lack of alternative employment raises serious concerns.
This setup, once hailed as a new identity for digital journalism in Pakistan, has shut down before it could even properly launch. The closure has left not only its employees but also the broader digital media community disheartened.
In a time of rising inflation and unemployment, this decision feels like a heavy blow to media professionals. Even under the leadership of senior journalist Kamran Khan, the project failed to provide a sustainable future for its team.
