Sindh govt remains fully committed to improving healthcare infrastructure
KARACHI Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the Ibn Sina Ward, Ibn al-Haytham Ward, and Al-Shifa OPD at Memon Medical Institute (MMI) Hospital, calling the expansion an important milestone in strengthening quality healthcare services in the province.
Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said that the new facilities would help ensure patient care with greater comfort, dignity, and ease, reflecting a strong commitment to public welfare. He reaffirmed that the Government of Sindh remains fully committed to improving healthcare infrastructure, expanding specialised services, and ensuring inclusive access to medical facilities for all segments of society.
Recalling his previous visit to MMI Hospital in 2017, the Chief Minister said that after Aga Khan University Hospital and Indus Hospital, Memon Medical Institute has emerged as one of the largest private-sector health facilities in Karachi. He appreciated the role of donors in running the hospital, terming it a remarkable service to humanity.
Mr Shah noted that Karachi is widely known for advanced medical treatment facilities and emphasised that public-private partnerships play a crucial role in areas where the government cannot directly deliver services. “In healthcare, the Sindh government serves people on the principle of human dignity,” he said.
The Chief Minister also announced that the Sindh government would provide full support for machinery and equipment for the newly inaugurated wards. He further said that MMI Hospital would provide free treatment to children born with hearing impairments, calling it a significant welfare initiative.
Highlighting the importance of education and healthcare as pillars of a prosperous society, Murad Ali Shah said that institutions like MMI Hospital not only deliver professional medical care but also support vulnerable communities through welfare programs. He appreciated the dedication of doctors, nurses, staff, trustees, and donors, whose efforts reflect a strong spirit of service and social responsibility.
The Chief Minister also expressed his personal association with MMI Patron Shabbir Dewan, describing him as a longtime friend, and announced that the Sindh government would collaborate with Memon Medical Institute on its proposed university project.
Concluding his address, Murad Ali Shah assured continued government support for initiatives that promote compassion, excellence, and equity in healthcare, stating that such public-private collaboration is essential to building a healthier and future-ready Sindh.
