Public Gathering Held in Adhigam Near Nagarparkar on the Baras (a memorial ceremony) of Awami Tehreek Leader Comrade Maghno Mal Kolhi; Rich Tribute Paid

 Mithi / Tharparkar/ Nagarparkar On the occasion of the death anniversary of senior Awami Tehreek worker, long march participant for the rights of Sindh, close associate of respected Rasool Bux Palijo, and a lifelong struggler for the rights of peasants, workers, and the poor, Comrade Maghno Mal Kolhi, a public gathering was held the (Baras) day in village Adhigam near Nagarparkar, on Sunday night where he was paid a grand tribute.

The gathering was attended by Awami Tehreek Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, central leader Advocate Mumtaz Khoso, Obhayo Junejo, Ayaz Khoso, A.B. Charo, Advocate Dewat Rai, Bhero Kolhi, Khainraj Kolhi, Daho Kolhi, Togachi, Phalaj Kolhi, Krishan Lal, Pyasi Meghwar, Harsingh Bheel, Kalji Kolhi, Somji, Comrade Mansukh Kolhi, Nitraj Kolhi, Lako Kolhi, Paro Kolhi and other leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Awami Tehreek Central President Advocate Vasand Thari said that Comrade Maghno Mal Kolhi devoted his entire life to the struggle for the rights of oppressed classes. He played an active role in Awami Tehreek’s movement for the protection of Sindh. He actively participated in protests against the Gorano Dam and the cutting of Karoonjhar. Despite illness, he remained practically engaged in struggle, and his sacrifices will always be remembered.

Advocate Vasand Thari stated that MQM has once again attacked the very existence of Sindh. He said President Asif Ali Zardari constitutionally has the authority to remove Governor Kamran Tessori, who is allegedly running a campaign for the division of Sindh, but instead of removing him, the PPP leadership is staging fake dramas in the Sindh Assembly. He alleged that anti-Sindh forces are on the same page.

He further said that the PPP supports the KSP policy in Karachi’s educational institutions, under which doors have been closed for Sindhi students. On the demand of MQM, Murad Ali Shah got the decision of digital census approved in the CCI meeting, reducing the population count of Sindhis. He alleged that through the digital census, a conspiracy was hatched to turn Sindhis into a permanent minority. According to him, the conspiracy to divide Sindh was prepared at the time of the census and is now being implemented.

He said that PPP and MQM are coalition partners in the federal government. He alleged that President Zardari used the Presidency to sell the Indus River and that through the Governor House, attacks on the unity of Sindh are being carried out with the involvement of PPP leadership, as the Governor works under the President.

He claimed that instead of sending to jail those MQM terrorists involved in killings in Karachi, they were brought into assemblies under “Form 47” and given ministries. He further alleged that the current establishment is following General Zia’s strategy by imposing bandits in rural Sindh and MQM terrorists in urban areas. He said the Sindhi nation is under attack by forces nurtured during General Zia’s era.

He added that those calling for a referendum on new provinces should conduct it in the regions they belong to. Sindh is the historic homeland of Sindhis. Those interfering with Sindh’s unity should be imprisoned. He described MQM not as a political party but as a known terrorist group.

Vasand Thari further said that Karoonjhar is a cultural symbol of Sindh and there is a conspiracy to cut it down. He alleged that the rulers have already sold Karoonjhar to companies. It is our duty, he said, to struggle every moment for the protection of Karoonjhar like Maghno Kolhi did.

He stated that although the government earns billions of rupees from coal and other minerals extracted from Tharparkar, the people of Thar are deprived even of clean drinking water. Hundreds of villages in Thar and Umerkot lack water facilities. Water supply to Islamkot and Mithi has also been suspended for the past two months. He alleged that the PPP rulers have turned the entire Thar into Karbala.

He said electricity is generated from Thar but is not provided to its residents. Even in the modern era, there are no mobile signals in many areas, which reflects the incompetence of the rulers. He said that grazing lands have been occupied, and now through corporate farming, more than 1.3 million acres of land in Sindh are being taken over. He termed Green Corporate Initiative Private Limited a land-grabbing company eyeing Thar’s lands.

He further alleged that the real purpose of SIFC is to sell the country at throwaway prices, not to increase investment. According to him, through SIFC, food security will be taken away from the people and the country’s sovereignty will be compromised by selling land to foreign companies.
