Peshawar: Senior Journalist Anila Shaheen Passes Away, Journalistic Community Mourns
Peshawar Press Club has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the passing of senior journalist Anila Shaheen. In a condolence statement, the Press Club said that Anila Shaheen was a fearless, principled, and highly professional journalist who performed her duties in extremely challenging circumstances and always raised her voice for truth and justice.
Anila Shaheen achieved several major milestones in her journalistic career. She was the first female reporter to interview Swat Taliban spokesperson Muslim Khan during the peak of militancy in Swat, and she extensively and courageously covered the Swat military operation. Her reporting during that critical period received national and international recognition, as she risked her life to keep the public informed of the ground realities.
According to the Press Club, the late journalist was not only brave in the field but was also at the forefront of the struggle for journalists’ rights, press freedom, and the resolution of issues faced by working journalists. She served in various key positions, including as the elected General Secretary of the Khyber Union of Journalists, and played an effective role in representing journalists across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her leadership will continue to serve as a guiding light for young journalists.
The condolence statement further said that Anila Shaheen was a strong and powerful voice for working journalists in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and across the country. Although she is no longer among us, her courageous reporting, professional services, and principled stance will always be remembered, leaving lasting marks on Pakistani journalism.
Her funeral prayer will be offered at 3:00 pm at the Hajji Darya Khan Baba graveyard in Chamkani, after the funeral procession departs from her ancestral village, Chamkani Aziz Abad, Inqilab Road.
The cabinet, governing body, and all members of the Peshawar Press Club have expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty Allah grants the departed soul a high place in His mercy, elevates her ranks, and gives patience and strength to the family to bear this irreparable loss.
