Saeed Ghani says City Council members favouring JI leader to further decrease if no-confidence motion moved against Karachi Mayor
Karachi Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said the Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, is free to exercise the constitutional mean of moving a motion of no-confidence against the Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab but whenever the motion is put to vote in the City Council the number of its members favouring the JI leader would further decrease as compared to mayoral election held two months back.
The Sindh Labour Minister stated this on Monday while talking to media persons after inaugurating the public complaint cell in Korangi Town of the city.
To a question, Ghani hoped that a consensus would emerge between the Sindh Chief Minister and new Leader of Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Rana Ansar, on choosing the incoming caretaker CM in the province
Responding to another query, he said that it was impossible to hold general elections in the country in just three months after approval of the results of the latest census digital census in the country.
He said the delimitation of the electoral constituencies had to be carried out afresh after approval of the census results as per the constitution. “Being a political activist it is my desire that the elections should be held in the country at the earliest but now new delimitation of the constituencies is necessary before polls,” said Ghani who is also the President of the PPP Karachi chapter.
He said that Pakistan would emerge stronger after every election.
He said the people of Karachi had reposed confidence in the Pakistan People’s Party in the latest local government elections so the PPP’s representatives were under an obligation to do their best to resolve the issues of people. “We will never like the situation of people losing hope in the People’s Party,” he said.
He reiterated the motto of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that winning elections shouldn’t be the ultimate goal for the followers of his party as the real mission was to serve the people.
The Sindh Labour Minister said that he had asked the Chairman of Korangi Town Naeem Sheikh that in addition to the officials of the town’s administration, the representatives of different civic agencies should also be present in the newly launched complaint cell. He said the availability of the officials belonging to KDA, KWSB, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, of other public service agencies would provide a one-window mechanism to the area people for the resolution of their urgent civic issues.
Ghani conceded the situation that issues related to water and electric supply had become main problems for the residents of Karachi.
He said the Sindh government would ensure that the newly elected local government representatives were given requisite funds at the earliest for serving the people in their respective areas as the transition period before the formal formation of the new municipal agencies in the city would be shortened for the purpose.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Korangi Town, Naeem Sheikh, said that since assuming charge of his new municipal office he had been doing his best to serve the people as per the vision of the PPP Chairman.
He said that so far eight development projects had been completed in Korangi Town and work was in progress on more new schemes. He said the officials posted in his town had been extending him full support for completing the development schemes in the shortest possible time.
