Explosive Devastation Strikes Seychelles Industrial Zone

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Seychelles' main island Mahe experienced a
catastrophic explosion at an explosives store, sending shockwaves through the
Providence Industrial area. The destructive blast, originating from the CCCL
explosives store, not only obliterated buildings within the industrial zone but
also caused extensive damage to the surrounding areas. The aftermath was
further compounded by heavy rains, triggering flooding that claimed the lives
of three individuals. In response to the severity of the situation, President
Wavel Ramkalawan declared a state of emergency .
As the island grappled with the dual disaster of the explosion and floods,
national television broadcasted distressing footage of streets submerged in
deep mud, strewn with debris, and scattered with uprooted trees. The Providence
Industrial area bore the brunt of the explosion, leaving behind a landscape of
devastation. Simultaneously, heavy rains worsened the situation, exacerbating
the challenges faced by the island's residents.
Island Grapples with Dual Disaster: Blast and Floods
In a press briefing, President Ramkalawan urged everyone to stay at home,
emphasizing the critical need for collective safety. The president announced
the closure of all schools and restricted movement, allowing only workers in
essential services and individuals with travel requirements to move freely. The
gravity of the situation prompted the state of emergency declaration on the 7th
of December, marking a somber day in Seychelles' history.
Despite the enormity of the crisis, Seychelles, a renowned tourist destination,
demonstrated resilience by assuring the international community that its
airport and inter-island ferries remained operational for tourists. The
government's official Visit Seychelles account emphasized the nation's strength
in the face of adversity and the commitment to ensuring the safety of visitors.
In the midst of this national tragedy, the Seychellois people and their leaders
