Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that drugs are not only a scourge but can affect anyone at any time. Perhaps this issue has even reached the doors of our elected representatives. To combat it, we must work together and cooperate with one another.
Speaking during the question period in the Sindh Assembly, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Inam Memon, stated that the Excise and Narcotics Control Department is working tirelessly to combat drugs. He added that the members of the House are fortunate to have passed the drug bill.
He stated that no matter how powerful the drug dealers are, they will be brought to justice. Currently, the Sindh government has the capacity to treat 400 drug addicts, though private drug rehabilitation centers are also in operation. The scourge of drugs is not limited to Sindh but extends to Punjab, KP, and Balochistan—indeed, all of Pakistan is impacted by this crisis.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that Even before I became the Excise Minister, I was committed to fighting against narcotics," he said. He called on elected representatives of the House to support the government by providing lists of individuals involved in the heinous drug trade, assuring that action would be taken. He emphasized that the Pakistan People's Party leadership—Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari—has issued clear directives to take all necessary steps to combat and eradicate narcotics.
He stated that the entire assembly has shown unanimous support on the issue of narcotics, with actions already underway in educational institutions. He assured that the government is committed to drug eradication and urged everyone to cooperate in this mission. “We must work together to protect our future generations; God forbid that they suffer or be destroyed due to drugs,” he added.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also presented a resolution in support of Kashmir in the Sindh Assembly, which was unanimously approved. Speaking on the resolution, he stated that “Kashmiris have endured decades of oppression by India, and their right to self-determination has been denied. Since Modi became Prime Minister, the rule of law has been disregarded in Occupied Kashmir, and Kashmiris have been stripped of their basic rights.” He emphasized that every government and prime minister of Pakistan has raised their voice at the United Nations in support of Kashmir.
He stated that the Indian government has been violating the fundamental rights of Kashmiris, noting that the current massacre of youth in Kashmir is unprecedented in history. "We want to make it clear to the world that the violation of Kashmiris' basic rights is unacceptable under any circumstances," he emphasized. He called on the international community to take action to end Indian brutality and aggression in Kashmir. "We must all stand in solidarity with Kashmiris and send a strong message globally that oppressed Kashmiris are not alone," he added.
