The Sindh government has decided to auction unused government vehicles within a month and procure electric vehicles (EVs) for government employees in Karachi.
A significant meeting of the Sindh Cabinet Sub-Committee on Austerity Measures was held at the Sindh Secretariat in Karachi, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, Provincial Minister for Interior and Law Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Provincial Minister for Prisons and Works and Services Ali Hassan Zardari, along with secretaries from various departments.
During the meeting, the committee members issued directives to implement clear guidelines for regulating the allocation of government vehicles. Additionally, the secretaries of various departments presented a ten-year record of government vehicles.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that the auction process should be completed within a month to avoid further wastage of resources and address the need for new vehicles. He stated that the government would benefit from purchasing electric vehicles (EVs), as they would save on petroleum costs, and their auction would also be streamlined.
He stated that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of public resources. He also emphasized that individuals using government vehicles without authorization are strictly instructed to return them in compliance with government orders, all relevant officials and departments to adhere to the new instructions to avoid legal action.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that work is underway on the auction of unused vehicles, which will be conducted with complete transparency.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani emphasized the importance of the timely auction of unused vehicles. He stated that it would help reduce unnecessary expenses and urged departments with surplus vehicles to return any excess to the government.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister for Interior and Law Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar stated that efforts are underway to swiftly identify unused vehicles and ensure compliance with government policies. He emphasized that the goal is to save public funds and ensure expenditures are aligned with actual needs.
In the meeting, Provincial Minister for Prisons and Works and Services Ali Hassan Zardari emphasized the need for a completely transparent auction process, stating that the funds generated would assist in purchasing new vehicles.
